Serve One Another In Love
Inside of both mine and Des' wedding bands is engraved "Galatians 5:13" which is "serve one another in love."
As I was reading that verse today in the NIrV, the particular passage where that verse is found is entitled "Chosen to Be Set Free." Weird. Weird that that verse is engraved on my wedding band.
Did I, when I said yes to getting married, say yes to being set free as well? I think I did.
Being a servant is not being a slave. I heard one time in a Sunday School class that servants are different than slaves. Slaves are stuck. Slaves have no say in what they do, where they go, who they answer to, they belong to their master. Servants are different. Servants have applied for the position. They love what they do so much that they are willing to do it full-time and serve their master expecting nothing in return. Servants can leave when they want. Servants have a choice.
I have chosen to be a servant to my husband. I am set free by being a servant. And because I wear something that reminds me to serve in love, I don't want to serve without love.
And then I think about the people I am serving outside of my own family. I want to serve everyone in love. I don't want to be a servant to God's creation without first having an attitude of love. I don't want to serve the people God loves and not love them first.
