animal shelter

Des and I went to the humane society yesterday.

I remember when I was little and would watch 'Lady and the Tramp,' I couldn't stand to watch the scene where Lady gets taken to the pound. There's this little group of dogs howling the blues while the camera pans over the dogs in the cages. Most of the dogs are just lying there and some are crying, some have a big wet tear falling down their nose...it was awful. So I think because of those images, I never wanted to go to a shelter; I thought it would be the same scene.

It really wasn't. The dogs were obviously well taken care of and there were lots of people there with us looking for a new friend to join their family.

I read that last year, the Asheville Humane Society has euthanized over 5,600 animals. With that said, they received 8,255 and either adopted or returned to their original owner 2,316. 265 animals left the shelter through other means. That's gotta be a tough job.

Although there was no one to take home with us, I was glad I went and saw a 'real' picture of what it's like.

    Aw, I love going to the humane society! I've been banned thought because my apartment is a border line zoo and Caden has already gotten into the Dog bowel to many times to count. I hope you find a furry friend soon!

    thought = though
    bowel = bowl (although bowel is funnier)
    to = too

    Sorry for all the typos!

    ewww... dog bowel... :)

    The other part about Lady and the Tramp that I don't like is the part when they put a muzzle on Lady... that was sad too.
