Contentment

Is there is difference between being content and being happy? And if there is, which is the more desirable? What should I strive to be: content or happy. Or is being happy an effect of being content. Or is being content an effect of being happy?

I think contentment is better, because that's what Paul refers to when he says we can always be content in knowing that we can do all things through Christ who strenghtens us. Happiness comes and goes but I think true contentment is much more stable then that.

Kathy, thanks for your insight. I believe you are right.

I know that there are many days when happiness is little more than a distant memory, while contentment helps me to realize that my family and friends are a blessing from heaven, no matter how difficult our days can sometimes be.
