You and me

Rosie Thomas

You and me, me and you
There’s so much that we’ve been through,
through it all I’ve come to understand Gods love.
And if tomorrow never comes
know this twice, just know this once.
Knowing you has made me able to go on.

You and me, me and you
There couldn’t be a better two,
to be blessed and know the meaning of true love.
And if you leave me I feel scared,
fall apart so unprepared.
But I dare to make it through all on my own.
Yes I dare to make it through on my own.

Four years ago I stood before my family, friends, and even strangers and told Desmond Smith I would love him for the rest of my life. Four years later, I still love him.
I remember learning in psychology class that love changes over time from passionate love to compassionate love and although I can see areas of our lives where this is true, I feel in other ways our love is still innocent and naive overlooking faults to see the good.
One of the things I appreciate about marriage is how the things around you can change so often and so much, but at the heart of each person is the heart of the other.
October is a month of so many changes. Des moved to America in October. I moved to America the following October. We were married the following October. The next October, we spent a few days in the mountains wondering if that would be our next next move. Nearly two years later, in October, we came back to Charlotte and began new jobs. Today, I am packing up our lives again and moving down the street. Our lives seem to change with the seasons and yet we change and stay the same along with them.
I feel like my marriage has made me a better person. I want to be the best person I can be.
My favorite time of the day is the time I spend with my husband. I love coming home to him. I love how he plays with the dog. I love his encouragement. I love his cooking. I love his talents. I love his passions. I love how he says his favorite time of the day is when he wakes up in the morning and Brody cuddles with him. I love how he tells football players to "kick him in the bum!" I love the way he folds towels - it's perfect. I love how his hands are always warm. I love how he asks me to watch Apple keynotes with him. I love how he's honest. I love how he's helpful. I love his patience. I love his new haircut.
I just love him.
