You Are Gorgeous!
This weekend at Youth Councils, Steve Fitzhugh was an AMAZING speaker. He connected with the kids in a way no one else I believe could. He was inspiring, empowering, moving, and transforming.
I've been reading a book called 'Dad If You Only Knew' by Josh Weidman who was the guest speaker at Youth Councils last year. This book is about how kids need their dads approval and love. Not just physical love or love with actions, but a love that affirms with words. At one point he talks about how dads need to tell their daughters they are beautiful. Steve alluded to this in one of his talks when he said he tells his girls every day how lucky he is to have such beautiful daughters. When girls have been given this confidence from their dad, a girl is less likely to get mixed up with the wrong guy saying the right thing.
Anyway, all that to tell you of a moment at Youth Councils. At one point, Steve asked a young lady to come up on stage with him. He was doing some kind of illustration about how much she is worth to God. But when she first went up there, he asked her name. She said Tiffany. And his response was heart stopping for me - he said, "You, are Tiffany. You, are gorgeous." After my initial response of 'aww, that was so nice', my heart began to hurt because I think after reading this book I was thinking about all the teenage girls in the room WISHING they were the girl on stage having Tiffany's name replaced with their own and hearing those words directed at them.
My prayer is that every girl in that room has a dad who tells them of their beauty.
