Cherokee
Well, I find myself in Cherokee, North Carolina for a few days this week. We are the the state Youth of the Year Competiton. Our very own Meaghan is here and has had her first round of interviews. They went very well and she felt confident in her responses. She's a good girl.
Tonight, we had a traditional Cherokee dinner - turnip greens, bean bread, beans, fried potatoe, back fat (or fat back?), and fried chicken. I can only say the only thing I HAVE eaten before was the fried chicken, and boy, was it good fried chicken...
Later in the even entertainment, we heard from a story teller who told us two legends. We saw a champion hoop dancer who has performed at two olympics and whose heritage was honored by the U.S postal service by having his portrait on a stamp. Very cool what he can do with those hoops. I left my camera at the hotel. I thought it was just going to be supper and games...wrong again.
Tomorrow is the last day. Hopefully Meghan will make it to the second round of interviews.
