I'se the B'y

I'se The B'y that builds the boat and
I'se The B'y that sails her and
I'se The B'y that catches the fish and
Brings 'em home to Liza

[Chorus:]

Hip-yer-partner Sally Tibbo
Hip-yer-partner Sally Brown
Fogo, Twillingate, Morton's Harbour,
All around the circle

Sods and rinds to cover your flake,
Cake and tea for supper
Cod fish in the spring of the year,
Fried in maggoty butter

[Chorus]

I don't want your maggoty fish
They're no good for winter
Well I can buy as good as that,
Way down in Bonavista!

[Chorus]

I took Liza to a dance,
As fast as she can travel,
And every step that she could take,
Was up to her knees in gravel

[Chorus]

Susan White she's outta sight,
Her petticoat wants a border,
Well old Sam Oliver in the dark,
He kissed her in the corner!

[Chorus]

I'se The B'y that builds the boat and
I'se The B'y that sails her and
I'se The B'y that catches the fish and
Brings 'em home to Liza

    Funny story...
So when I went to the music convention in W-S back in Nov., I went to a reading session on the last day. I love going to reading sessions because you get to keep the packet of music they give you! Anyway, I was searching through the pack to see if there was anything I knew, when all of a sudden there was a piece of music with the words "I'se the B'y" A Newfoundland folksong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lost it!!!! I mean, who publishes that for people to sing. So I was anxious to see how they were going to teach it...
FIRST of all, the session guy couldn't make it so they had fill ins and they didn't know the music.
SECOND of all, they took it SLOW! THIRD of all, they pronounced "I'se" like "IS"!
I laughed sooooooooo much! I was sitting next to my University supervisor and I quickly corrected his pronounciation! He told me that he may do the song in the spring and have me come back to teach it to the college choir...cool eh?
Anyway, thought I would share my funny story...
    ENJOY!
Love you...and MISS you...can't wait to see you... :)
